Suzano, a leading producer of market pulp in the world, released its 2022 Sustainability Report recently. The report, which provides a transparent and objective view of the Suzano’s financial, social, environmental and corporate governance highlights last year, describes the actions that helped the company’s progress on its 15 long-term commitments, in addition to other indicators.

One highlight is that Suzano lifted 18,300 people from poverty in its areas of operation in 2022. This number is more than double that reported in the previous year. According to the report, nearly 30,000 people have been lifted from poverty since 2020.

The Sustainability Report also shows that in 2022 Suzano rolled out the biggest forestry base expansion program in its history, which resulted in 265,000 hectares of new eucalyptus plantations, with 1.2 million seedlings planted per day. The document also describes how the company has modernized its mills, the new units being built in Brazil and Finland, and the importance of the launch of Suzano Ventures – Suzano’s US$70 million corporate venture capital fund, among many other initiatives that underscore its purpose of “Renewing Life Inspired by Trees” by developing sustainable and innovative solutions in pursuit of the bioeconomy.

This year, Suzano has published the Sustainability Report and the Sustainability Report | Complementary Information, following the guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and assured by external audit conducted by PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers).

A broader set of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) indicators will be updated in Suzano’s Sustainability Center, a hub of resources dedicated exclusively to the company’s sustainability aspects. The Center provides data on climate management, forest management, social development and other issues in alignment with key international guidelines on the disclosure of non-financial information, such as the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
