Innovation Strategy

For over 100 years, innovation has been in our DNA. We strive to do things differently and better as we work in each process, knowing that this effort drives us toward a more sustainable future. We are always innovating in our products and processes, and welcoming more partners—organizations and companies that are part of our value chain, such as universities and startups— to innovate with us.

Combining innovation with sustainability, or what we call “Innovability”, is the way to find solutions to society’s urgent challenges. This is the basis of our innovation strategy. We have an area dedicated to research and innovation that develops projects in the areas of biotechnology, genetics, breeding, forest management, pulp, fluff, biorefinery, paper, packaging and consumer goods.

SUZANO ASIA INNOVABILITY HUB

Suzano Asia Innovability Hub (I-Hub) serves as the dynamic platform for Suzano to collaborate with a wide array of stakeholders, including customers, universities, research institutes, etc. The I-Hub embodies a groundbreaking concept that transcends traditional research and development, representing the company’s long-term strategy to establish an open and transformative innovation platform. This platform empowers Suzano and its partners to nurture and expedite the R&D and innovation of biopulp and our Fiber-to-Fiber solutions that cater to the needs of the Asian and global markets, supporting the transition toward a sustainable, low-carbon economy.

Inaugurated in Shanghai in March 2023, the I-Hub stands as the company’s sixth technology center and first R&D and innovation center in China. With an investment of over US$10 million, the I-Hub is home to an advanced laboratory, an interactive experience center and various collaboration spaces.

Our Eucafluff® is the world’s first eucalyptus fluff, a raw material from a renewable source. Eucafluff® has been transforming the sanitary pads industry, providing more comfort and well-being to end consumers and helping companies reduce the environmental footprint of their products.

We are open to partnerships with other organizations and support startups focused on boosting the bioeconomy, while actively participating in innovation ecosystems and facilitating meetings and mentoring.

We also foster innovation internally by ensuring that our teams have the confidence to pursue new solutions, are encouraged to experiment and are motivated to propose new ideas.
